Artist's Statement

I consider my paintings a celebration of the intersection between the medium, the artist, and the viewer. The paintings are invitations to wordless experience, a poetics of the invisible. I create visual symphonies, lush portals that announce a pilgrimage or journey into the unknown.

My process is one of aesthetic exploration. The alchemy between chance and intention fascinates me. I am touched by everyday occurrences, yet a kind of phenomenology of the spirit moves through me. I’m happy with the unforeseen, the magic of beautiful passages, and the way a painting can resonate like music.

The material world is far-reaching, mysterious, interconnected in unfathomable ways, full of subtle energy. I delve into the dialogue between the human and the divine, the spirit of place (genus loci), organic energy, and imagination.

I have found my voice as a visual artist through sheer dedication, practice, and joy. Each utterance allows space for interpretation, so the paintings become like reflecting pools. I’m an improvisational vessel through which the contact moment between subject and object flows. At times I feel like an underground aquifer. The paintings just keep coming.

The paintings are not about me. They are about the beauty that we sometimes forget to see.  We look, but we don’t see. We act, but we are sometimes strangers to ourselves. I like to think of my paintings as bridges between the known and unknown. One may discover ever-changing qualities in the color, form, and emotional impact, an arising and passing to be contemplated, the promise of intimacy.
