My approach as an intuitive painter highlights the freedom and magic of
unplanned process. I paint wet-into-wet on pre-soaked paper in the mediums of
watercolor and fluid acrylic. Colors mingle and transform in a wordless unfolding
of momentary experience. A synergistic dance between body, mind, spirit, water,
pigment and paper takes place. I sometimes add an overlay of ink design.
Each painting is a unique improvisation honoring the mystery of being that lies at
the heart of creativity and consciousness. Though indeterminacy and chance play
a role; craft and faith in the co-arising outcome are ever present.
In essence, I’m channeling the feeling tone of experience. Sense memories of the
personal and transpersonal inner landscapes of the human condition, emotional
and spiritual states of being, encounters with nature, the impacts of travel, and
my life as a woman are among the sources of inspiration that arise spontaneously.
A walk through the redwoods on Mount Tamalpais will be experienced next day
as sense memory. Whatever struck my being, say the dappled light, will emerge
subjectively in a painting. The poetic language is universal.
The feeling tone expressed is graced with meaning and the promise of intimacy
with what is – raw emotion, spirit/mind state, kinesthetic energy, nature, and
dream. I take the invisible raw materials of life, transform and interpret them.
Viewers are invited to embark upon their own personal journeys through the
paintings. Needless to say, I am in love with color!
